Course Instructor: Greg Banish

Greg Banish is a mechanical engineer and motorsports enthusiast who works as an OEM calibrator by day and professional engine tuner in his spare time. After studying for a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at GMI Engineering & Management Institute (Kettering University), he wrote his thesis on vehicle instrumentation and measurement. Putting this education to practical use, he founded his own performance shop outside of Detroit and has served local enthusiasts, shops, automotive companies and OEMs. He is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and SEMA.

To this day, he continues to serve the performance industry providing EFI calibration and consulting services to shops as well as authoring a book on EFI tuning. (Engine Management: Advanced Tuning, CarTech Publishing, 2007) With over a thousand aftermarket calibrations performed, he has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of engines and control systems. He also enjoys road racing his Ford Mustang in competition and open track events.

Course Description

Advanced Ford EFI Training
Duration: 2 days

For those looking to take the next step in proficiency with aftermarket control of Ford EFI systems, this course provides a wealth of knowledge and insight. This course goes into detail about the control strategies employed on late model Ford fuel injection systems. Students are given a tremendous amount of reference material in the course notes along with a live demonstration of some of the most complex strategies being tamed right before their eyes.

Examples are tailored toward Ford specific cases ranging from early EEC-IV systems to the newest torque based ETC systems. The course goes further in depth on the Ford strategies and controls than our introductory EFI course. Students are provided useful reference material that will serve them for years to come. The seminar will include several live demonstrations using a chassis dynamometer, the SCT Advantage tuning software and LiveLink datalogger.

Benefits of Attending
By attending this seminar, you will learn to:
• Describe how the Ford EEC and its sensors function
• Develop and correct base tables, MAF transfer functions, and adders without relying entirely upon "value files"
• Control returnless fuel pump systems, even on high powered cars
• Properly adjust torque based electronic throttle control without compromising safety
• Prevent many common drivability issues with the Ford EEC

Who Should Attend?
This class is for the more experienced tuner looking to learn more about Ford control systems. While it covers some of the basics of EFI tuning, a strong emphasis will be placed upon working within the specific controls of the Ford EEC systems. Professional tuners and shop owners in particular will find this course extremely useful for unlocking some of the mystery behind the latest controls systems. Some math is involved, so be prepared to use a calculator.
